Impact. What is Impact? Oxford’s Dictionary defines the word as, “having a strong effect on someone or something.” Merriam-Webster says, “the force of impression of one thing on another: a significant or major effect.” I believe Impact is the act of making a change to a particular subject, person, or area. That is what we strive to do in the SALT Youth Impact Initiative. Which brings us to our next word.
Initiative. Initiative should be the very thing that we all should have when we wake up in the morning. Initiative to do good in life. Initiative to be better than we already are. But most importantly. We all should have the initiative to make an impact on the world. Whether it’s a small impact or a large impact, we all should have the initiative to make any impact we can. In this trying time, many people are hurting. Whether it’s from losing a family member to COVID or watching the horrific videos of the deaths of George Floyd, Adam Toledo, and Ma’Khia Bryant. We all must stand together in unity during these trying times. We at the YII try to raise awareness for mental health, social justice, and bullying for the youth that feel as if they don’t have a voice because we all have had that type of feeling. The feeling as if we were ghosts. The feeling of being muted by our peers. We aim to stop this from happening to any other youth. To completely eradicate it, we must stand together and talk to one another to find out what we need to do in order to completely stop bullying. We must help each other find various programs to help get each other involved and have initiative to come out in the community and help other youth as well using their experiences.
